Fire forces family from home
A Costa Mesa family has been relocated for the holidays after a small
chimney fire forced more than 20 firefighters to tear a hole in their
roof Monday.
Officials received the report of a fire in the 1500 block of Mesa
Verde Drive East at about 12:20 p.m. No injuries were reported as
firefighters extinguished the flames on the roof of the two-story Pine
Brook Village Apartments almost immediately.
“There was interior smoke damage but the majority of the fire damage
was on the chimney, on the roof,” said Battalion Chief Chris Riley of the
Costa Mesa Fire Department.
The cause of the fire is being investigated, said Capt. Fred Seguin,
public information officer for the fire department. No damage estimations
have been made.
