NEWPORT BEACH - Newport Harbor High’s girls water polo team swept
to its third straight victory Tuesday with a convincing 13-3 rout of
visiting Esperanza.
The Sunset League representatives were no match for the Sailors, who
jumped to a 6-2 lead in the first quarter and extended it to 8-3 by
halftime before completely slamming the door in the second half.
Jenna Murphy, who scored three times in the first quarter, led the way
with four goals and four steals.
Raelyn Ritchie chipped in with three goals, while Katherine Belden
scored twice and Jessica Ball, Amanda Moss, Annie Wight and Amber Braly
each had one goal.
Ball had five steals and Wight had two drawn ejections.
Goalkeeper Leah Grocki had four saves, an assist and two steals.
The Sailors, 3-0, host University on Friday afternoon.
