Corona del Mar High lost to Bonita in a shootout and defeated
Crescenta Valley, 1-0, in the Bonita girls soccer tournament Saturday.
In the Sea Kings’ quarterfinal game against Bonita, Corona del Mar
took a 2-1 halftime lead with goals from Lauren Shepardson and Jenny
Long, who shot the ball into the upper right corner of the net.
Bonita tied the score, 2-2, with 12 minutes left in the game and went
on to win, 5-4, in a shootout.
In Corona del Mar’s second game of the day against Crescenta Valley,
Allison Harvey scored 10 minutes into the second half with an assist from
Shepardson. Rachel Waters made two saves in the Sea Kings’ gold bracket
semifinal game.
Shepardson injured her knee and was taken out of the game, but could
be ready to play Monday, CdM Coach Ron Evans said. Jacqueline Thayer also
suffered a leg injury Saturday and was carried off the field.
Corona del Mar advances to the gold bracket championship game Monday
at 6:30 p.m. at Bonita. The Sea Kings (5-2-1) will take on Alta Loma.
