Girls basketball: Sage Hill triumphs

ANAHEIM - Sage Hill overcame the absence of its starting center to

earn a 37-22 victory over Connelly in the consolation semifinals of the

Fairmont Tournament Friday at Fairmont High.

Freshman Carly Clark had a team-high 13 points and sophomore Samantha

Burns came off the bench to chip in six points and 11 rebounds to help

offset 6-foot-1 freshman post Katie Pushier missing the game to attend an

equestrian training session.

The Lightning (2-4) has now earned both of its victories over

Connelly, which it defeated in the first meeting, 37-24.

Sage Hill Coach Shanna Renken praised her team’s second-half defensive

intensity, as Connelly scored only six points after intermission.

Sage Hill plays the Whitney-Liberty Christian winner for the

consolation crown today at 3:45 p.m.
