Youth flag football: Davis rallies to win championship

Scott Knox made a 58-yard touchdown pass to Chris Earnest with 1:36
left in the game to lift the City of Costa Mesa Davis A youth flag
football team over San Clemente, 15-12, in the championship game of the
Orange County Tournament.
Knox connected with Larry Puente Jr. early in the first quarter to
give Davis a 6-0 lead. The game was tied, 6-6, at halftime.
The Davis defense led by Miles Resnick and Hui Luu added a safety to
put Davis ahead, 8-6, going into the fourth quarter.
San Clemente answered with a touchdown to take a 12-8 lead with five
minutes left in the game, but Knox connected with Earnest three and a
half minutes later to secure the win for Davis.
Davis defeated Saddleback Valley, 24-19, and Santa Ana, 21-0, before
taking on San Clemente.
In other flag football action:
* In the B Division, Killybrooke had a strong effort against Garden
Grove, but fell, 12-0. Killybrooke won Costa Mesa’s B Division to advance
to the tournament.
* In the C Division, the California Packers defeated Santa Ana, 18-12,
but went on to lose in the final seconds to Laguna Hills, 18-13.
