The Corona del Mar-based Samueli Foundation has awarded a $10,000

grant to a Laguna Niguel nonprofit organization that conducts art

workshops for people suffering from chronic illnesses.

Art & Creativity for Healing was founded by local artist and former

art professor Laurie Zagon 10 years ago. More than 5,000 adults and

children have participated in the organization’s Art for Healing

workshops over the years.

These workshops give patients suffering from various illnesses the

opportunity to express their creativity on canvas with acrylic paints.

Members of the organization said the grant will be used to buy

professional-quality acrylic paints and artists’ canvasses for 1,000

children and adults who will attend workshops next year.
