Girls basketball: Troy defeats Sea Kings
FULLERTON - There were just too many weapons from the Troy High
girls basketball team and Corona del Mar had no answer as the Warriors
scored a 70-29 victory in the quarterfinals of the Troy NJB Hoops Classic
Tuesday at Troy High.
Troy (3-0) built a 34-17 halftime lead and went on a 22-8 run in the
third, paced by an aggressive defense and some accurate three-point
shooting.
The lone positive for the Sea Kings (2-2) was that they never gave up,
CdM Coach Elbert Davis said.
“(Troy) can beat you in so many ways,” Davis said. “What are you going
to do? It’s tough, but now we know what it’s like ... when you play one
of the best teams in the state.”
Senior guard Courtney Kawata led the way for CdM with nine points.
The Sea Kings will meet Bell Gardens Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in a
fifth-place semifinal.
