Brittany Meeks scored on a penalty kick with two minutes left in
the game to lift visiting Santa Margarita High, 2-1, over Corona del Mar
(4-2) in a nonleague girls soccer game Tuesday.
The Sea Kings’ Jenny Long scored with an assist from Tanisha Senarte
to tie the score, 1-1, with 18 minutes left in the game.
With five minutes left, Olivia Mazura passed the ball to Allison
Harvey, who knocked the ball past Santa Margarita (1-0) goalkeeper Allice
Lawrence. Santa Margarita defender Daniella Bosio knocked the ball off
the goal line to prevent a goal.
Mazura was taken to the hospital late in the game after dislocating
her shoulder and injuring her rotater cuff during the game, CdM Coach Ron
Evans said. She could be out for at least a week.
Also, Elisha Morgan, a CIF first-team selection, underwent knee
surgery Tuesday and is expected to return to the team in mid January. She
was injured prior to the start of the season while playing club soccer.
