Women’s basketball: Waves overwhelm Anteaters

UC Irvine made a late run, but could not overcome host Pepperdine
and lost to the Waves, 72-61, in a nonconference women’s basketball game
Sunday.
The Waves (3-3) built a 21-point lead with five minutes left in the
game, but the Anteaters went on a 15-1 rally over the next three and a
half minutes to cut the deficit to 68-61 with 1:45 remaining.
UCI’s Brandy Hudson had a career-high 19 points while Cindy Oparah
posted her third double-double of the season with 15 points and 16 rebounds. Christina Callaway added nine points and Kristen Green had
seven for the Anteaters (1-4).
Pepperdine took a 35-28 lead at halftime despite shooting just 39.4%
from the field. UCI shot 60% from the field in the first half. The Waves
shot 40.6% for the game while the Anteaters made 41.4% of their field
goals.
