Girls basketball: Valley Christian topples Mesa
Valley Christian High’s Susie Boogaard, a 6-foot-3 senior center,
scored 20 points Thursday night as the Crusaders’ girls basketball team
exploded early and defeated Costa Mesa, 62-36, in the second round of the
Bellflower Tournament.
Valley Christian of Cerritos (2-0), which returns all of its starters
from last year’s team that reached a CIF Southern Section Division IV
title game, outscored the Mustangs (1-1) in the first quarter, 22-3.
Costa Mesa, led by senior Christine Caron (nine points, five rebounds,
two blocks and two assists), will face Gahr tonight at 7:30 at the same
site, Bellflower High. Megan Fate (16 points) and Michi Miller (10) also
scored in double figures for the Crusaders.
