PLANNING COMMISSION WRAP-UP
WHAT HAPPENED:
The planning commission approved several additions that will be made
to the Huntington Central Park Equestrian Center, and approved the
conditional-use permit for structures already built at the center.
WHAT IT MEANS:
Among the additions will be three new wash racks, construction of
roofed manure bins, a roofed storage and maintenance area, a pony ride
area, remodeling an existing office for a food and beverage service area
with outdoor seating and installing infiltration basins to filter any
contaminants from the water that comes through the property’s water
system.
The center has turned in its water quality plans as requested by the
city’s public works department, and expects to begin the improvements in
a month, said owner and operator of the center Mary Warren.
Planning for the water quality improvements is the reason the permits
for the existing structures took three years, Warren said.
Projects at the site since 1998 include 20 more horse corrals to hold
the center’s 420 horses, three office trailers consisting of a
480-square-foot service center, and a 720-square-foot horse show office.
The new additions will cost $400,000 and be funded by grant money the
center is currently seeking, Warren said.
WHAT THEY SAID:
“The planning commission was really supportive of the equestrian
center, they helped us out a lot,” owner and operator of the equestrian
center Mary Warren said.
