Jr. All-American Football: Seahawks advance to Super Bowl
The Newport-Mesa Jr. All-American Football Jr. Midget Seahawks
defeated the Rowland Heights Raiders, 14-6, to win the AFL championship
Saturday.
The Raiders made their way to the Seahawks’ 30-yard line only to be
denied on fourth and inches by the front line of Delano McKenzie, Matt
Lutton, Lou Truxton, Tony Jones and Matt Burgner.
Following a tough defensive series by the Raiders, McKenzie recovered
a fumble to give the Seahawks the ball early in the second quarter.
On the Seahawks ensuing drive, Matt Reiger raced 55 yards down the
sideline for a touchdown to put the Seahawks ahead, 6-0.
John Angelo cut through the middle of the Raiders’ defense for the two
extra points.
Angelo intercepted a Raiders’ pass late in the secon quarter as the
Seahawks held on to an 8-0 lead at halftime.
Late in the third quarter, with the Seahawks backed up on their 6-yard
line, Tom Jackson connected with Angelo on a 94-yard touchdown pass to
put the Seahawks up, 14-0.
The Raiders scored late in the fourth quarter.
Matt Hauser and Jackson shared duties as quarterback while running
backs Bret Crowley and Matt Loyd made key blocks.
The Seahawks advance to the Super Bowl where they will take on the
Carson Colts. The game will be played Saturday at 5 p.m. at Bellflower
High.

* Jr. Midget Irvine Chargers 22, Compton Titans 0 - Newport Beach
starters James Coder, Avery Fenton, Joseph Flores, Shaun Mohler, Billy
Munce and Jack Tracy will lead the Chargers in the Super Bowl Saturday in
Bellflower.
