College baseball: Six sign with UCI
Six players signed national letters of intent with the UC Irvine
baseball program Tuesday.
Kris Krise, a 6-foot-5 right-handed pitcher from Crescenta Valley
High, went 7-3 and struck out 60 as a junior. He also had a 1.84 ERA and
earned All-Pacific League honors.
Krise was a memer of the 2001 Dodgers and Angels Elite teams as well
as the 2001 USA Baseball Team.
Third baseman Cody Haerther from Chaminade Prep is a Team One National
choice and two-time first-team All-Mission League player. He was also
named an American Legion All-Star. Haerther was the Chaminade Offensive
Player of the Year and spent two summers with the Dodger Elite Team.
Mark Wagner is a catcher at Mayfair High, where he was an All-CIF
first-team and all-league honoree as a junior. The three-year varsity
starter participated in the 2000 USA Junior Olympics.
Warren Chenier comes to the Anteaters from Mater Dei High. The 6-4
right-handed pitcher was a Team One National choice and was 7-0 as a
junior, earning all-league honors.
Ryan Edell is a left-handed pitcher from Lexington, Mass. During his
junior year, Edell went 8-0 and struck out 74 in 54 innings at Lexington
High. He also hit .391.
Matt Millett comes to UCI from East Valley Redlands High. He was
honored as one of the top 100 baseball players in California last year
and spent the 2001 summer with the Angels Elite Team.
