Pirates advance to state championships with win over Irvine Valley
COSTA MESA - Orange Coast College’s women’s volleyball team put
Irvine Valley away in four games Saturday night in the second round of
the Southern California Regional Playoffs to advance to the state
championships, which will be played at Pasadena City College Thursday
through Saturday.
The Bucs capped the 24-30, 30-23, 30-25, 33-31 victory with an amazing
Game 4 comeback, pulling from a near-imposible 15-5 deficit.
“With rally scoring, when you’re up like that, all you have to do is
side out and you’ll win,” said OCC Coach Chuck Cutenese. “I shouldn’t say
this, but I was already talking about what my lineup was going to be for
Game 5.”
Katja Muller led the Pirates with 27 kills and Krystle Davis tallied
18. Davis also had four service aces, giving her 61 this season to set a
school single-season record.
