A Delta flight arriving at John Wayne Airport blew two tires while
landing Saturday morning on the airport’s main runway, causing it to be
closed for two hours.
Originating in Salt Lake City, the flight held 63 passengers. No
injuries were reported. Officials at John Wayne closed the runway for
about two hours while maintenance crews changed the tires before towing
the aircraft. The runway reopened at about 11:30 a.m., said airport
spokeswoman Ann McCarley.
Kip Smith, manager of corporate communications for Delta, said
blown-tire mishaps do not happen often. The cause of the incident is
being investigated.
