Help from Surf City is on the way to the Big Apple just in time for
the holidays.
A delegation from the Huntington Beach Police Officers Assn. will be
flying to New York in December to present a check for $90,000 to the New
York Police and Fire Department Relief Funds established in the aftermath
of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the city.
The association began selling the “End of Watch” T-shirts a few days
following the attacks to support relief efforts in New York, and sales
quickly snowballed.
“I’m amazed at how quick, by word of mouth, news traveled,” said
Senior Police Officer Jeff Huss.
But Huss isn’t satisfied with the money raised so far, he would like
to raise more.
The group has fallen short of its goal of $100,000, Huss said, but he
hopes people will still buy shirts before officers fly east next month.
T-shirts are still available for $10 by calling (714) 842-8851.
