Ayso Region 57: Mako Sharks shine in playoffs
The Mako Sharks defeated the Gladiators, 4-1, and shut out the
Newport Storm, 6-0, in AYSO Region 57 boys under-10 playoff soccer games.
Chris Freeman, Cameron Koppel and Sebastien Welch scored goals and
midfielders Ryan Peyton, Nick Taormina and Braydon Blackford dominated on
defense to help the Sharks earn their 10th and 11th straight victories.
David Fenner, Saahm Aresh, Taylor Battram and Chandler Mitchell were
instrumental in protecting the Sharks’ net.
The Mako Sharks’ next playoff game is on Monday.
In boys under-12 action:
* Pyros 1, Spitfire 1 - Joe Frey scored early in the game to put the
Spitfire ahead, but Parker Reed scored on a penalty kick late in the
second half to tie the score.
James Petrilli anchored the Spitfire defense in goal, with help from
defenders Charlie Long, Daniel Kernan, Nick Groke, David Grant and Scott
Berkhausen.
Crisco Elliott was solid in the net for the Pyros. He received support
from defenders Andrew Mason, Matt Langel, Austin Harms, Michael Hay and
Chase Stark.
Omeed Alemi, Peter Vankuchen, Ori Tabak and Karan Sahni were offensive
threats.
In boys under-10 action:
* The Mutants defeated the Kings, 2-0, and the Turtles, 4-0. Matt
Wilkirson was strong in the net and Connor Gaal had four goals in both
games. Jaime McKernan and Tony McCoy also scored goals. The defense was
led by Brandon Rus, Scott Youngman, Max Callas, Patrick Pearson, Jeremy
Bowinkel and Kevin Dales.
In girls under-10 action:
* Shore Breakers 3, Sweepers 0 - Sarah Carvelli, Marta Tena and
Korinne Korman scored goals with assists from Ashleigh Smith. Kelly
Cooper, Savannah Perkins, Zoya Mohan, Elizabeth Barzegar, Jenny Zimmerman
and Erica Phillips played well in midfield. Goalkeepers Korinne Korman
and Victoria Burkhead were solid in the net.
