The capital campaign to build the Arts Pavilion at Orange Coast
College received a financial boost Oct. 30 when it received a gift from
the estate of a former art student.
The campaign received $150,000, bringing to nearly $1.2 million the
amount the college has raised to fund the $2-million project.
“This is a wonderful gift that pushes our Arts Pavilion campaign into
the homestretch,” said Bill Wood, the campaign’s co-chairman. “This donor
had an extraordinary Orange Coast College experience. After her
retirement years ago, she regularly took arts classes on OCC’s campus.
She loved the program here.”
Funded entirely by private donations, the 8,500-square-foot pavilion’s
construction will start in mid-2002 next to the new 78,000-square-foot
Arts Center that will open for classes in January.
The pavilion will include an art gallery, a young artists gallery and
a cafe. The donor’s estate also provided for $20,000 to establish an
endowed arts scholarship in memory of the donor, who wishes to remain
anonymous.
