PLANNING COMMISSION WRAP-UP
WHAT HAPPENED:
The planning commission approved the conditional use permit for
Sunrise Development, Inc. to construct a two-story, 97-unit assisted
living facility in three buildings totaling 66,000-square-feet at 2134
Main St., north of Yorktown Avenue and west of Ranch Lane in Huntington
Beach.
WHAT IT MEANS:
Before the project can get started, it must survive a 10-day appeal
period, and the Huntington Beach City Council needs to approve a zoning
map amendment that would allow the facility to be constructed on 4.82
acres of property, changing the facility’s zoning from residential-medium
density to public, semipublic use, said project planner Wayne Carvalho.
Normally, an assisted living facility is categorized for residential
care uses, and only allowed to be built on parcels smaller than two
acres, according to Carvalho.
Carvalho guessed the matter would come before City Council by late
December or early January.
WHAT THEY SAID:
“We’re cleaning up the zoning to coincide with the use,” Carvalho
said.
