WHAT HAPPENED:
The board voted to hold the annual organizational meeting of the board
of trustees on Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. in the boardroom of the District
Education Center. Brian Garland was absent.
WHAT IT MEANS:
On Dec. 11, the board will vote for a new president and clerk, and
also set the board calendar for 2002. Brian E. Rechsteiner is the current
president and Brian Garland is the board clerk.

HUNTINGTON BEACH UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT

WHAT HAPPENED:
The school board approved a request by the Entertainment and Tourism
Academy at Huntington Beach High to submit two applications to the Orange
County Department of Education for “Vision 2020 Educating for
Opportunities” grant funds. Matthew Harper cast the lone “no” vote.
WHAT IT MEANS:
The academy will apply for a $5,000 grant for a partnership with the
International Junior Achievement Program to develop a student-run travel
business. The second application is for a $3,000 grant to enhance the
existing academy curriculum.
Matching funds are required and will be provided by in-kind support.
