Pop Warner Football: Pee Wee Mustangs roll
The Costa Mesa Pop Warner Pee Wee Mustangs shut out the Stanton
Raiders, 12-0, in their final game of the season.
Cody Matthews and Gilbert Beas scored touchdowns. Ben Ward caused a
fumble and recovered it for the Mustangs. Julian Hernandez had an
interception and Garrick Williams made key tackles to limit the Raiders’
offense.
Antwon Byrd, Cody Fairfield and Williams made several carries. Ian
Abernathy piled up punt yardage. John Salyer, Andrew Ward and Chris
Hernandez contributed on defense.
In other Pop Warner football action:
* The Junior Pee Wee Black Mustangs earned a 27-21 victory. Josh Erno
ran 70 yard to score the winning touchdown. Andrew Millian and Erno each
scored twice to lead the Mustangs on offense. Omar Luna had an
interception. Strong defense was provided by Jim Swantusch, Roland Wood,
Joseph Galvez and Bobby Lenke.
* Lakewood 19, Junior Pee Wee Green Mustangs 14 - Trailing 19-7 in the
first half, the Green Mustangs fought back and held Lakewood scoreless in
the second. The Mustangs nearly scored on three drives in the second
half, including an effort in the final minutes that fell just short.
Chris Gute scored on runs of 2 and 8 yards for the Mustangs.
Solid defense was provided in the second half by Gute, Nicholas
Pederson, Jacob Folsom, Taylor Stevenson, Brett Farthing, Devin Anthony,
David Linden, Damien Scheidt, Jose Martinez, Brandon Coffey, Michael
Arciga and Jordan Palmer.
