Sailors roll, 17-1

Newport Harbor High’s Sailors were 17-1 winners over visiting Hart

of Newhall Thursday in the first round of the CIF Southern Section

Division II Playoffs with the Tars using various twists in their attack

to add a little experience to the fold.

In doubles the Sailors used a senior-freshman combination to sweep

away the Indians.

Senior Kelly Nelson teamed with Krista McIntosh and disposed of Hart’s

No. 1 and No. 3 teams, 6-0, while freshman Brittany Nelson and McIntosh

put away the No. 2 unit, 6-4.

Newport Harbor returns to the courts today and will host Rancho Verde

High at 2 p.m. The second-round match was moved up from Saturday to

accomodate Rancho Verde.
