Sailors sweep
NEWPORT BEACH - Hemet High’s Bulldogs were no match for
second-seeded Newport Harbor Thursday night in the second round of the
CIF Division II-AA Girls Volleyball Playoffs.
The host Sailors, 19-9, used less than an hour to dispose of the
Sunbelt League representatives, 15-4, 15-4, 15-6, behind the play of
Kristin McClune, Alyson Jennings, Liz Lord and Katie King, among others.
McClune had 12 kills and three service aces in the two games she
played, and Jennings (10 kills), Lord (seven kills) and King (39 assists)
stood out.
Hemet exits with a 14-9 mark.
“We’re starting to come together,” said Newport Coach Dan Glenn.
A coin flip today will determine Saturday night’s host in the
quarterfinals against Saugus (21-3) or Mark Keppel.
