During an inaugural silent auction and fund-raiser to benefit its
programs the Orange County Coast Keeper honored individuals and
organizations that have been actively and positively involved in the
preservation and cleanup of Orange County’s marine environment last
weekend.
Among those honored was California Coastal Commissioner Shirley
Dettloff, who is also a member of the Huntington Beach City Council.
Dettloff was recognized for more than 30 years of commitmentto the
environment and her work in the community.
“I was very proud to be recognized because one of my priorities as a
City Council member and Coastal Commissioner has been to water quality,”
Dettloff said. “The projects [Coast Keeper] are now involved in are
certainly those that will impact water quality in our area, so it was an
honor.”
Orange County Coast Keeper’s mission is to protect and preserve Orange
County’s marine habitat and watershed through education, restoration and
enforcement. A grass-roots organization, Orange County Coast Keeper seeks
to identify sources of coastal water pollution and establish effective
programs to eliminate them.
