We deeply believe that the Bolsa Chica mesa should be declared a state
historic site.
The proposal for new homes would destroy the wealth of study and
knowledge that the mesa provides all generations and would in truth
provide pleasure to a very small number of families. The only reason
anyone wants to develop the mesa is for personal profit -- not community
benefit. It will only take one residential development to wipe out the
layers of history held safe in the mesa.
Those of us who have endured seeing Native American burial grounds
destroyed in order to accommodate the hunger of developers and government
pork barrel projects know that such losses are devastating not only to
the cultural treasures wiped out but to the scholarship that we all need
as a reference point in order to play our roles in the long chain of
human history.
There is no justification for erasing the heritage of any cultural
group. The mesa and the wetlands should always be a treasured,
undisturbed gem within the Orange County and Southern California
communities.

Yes, it is important that Bolsa Chica be named a historic site.
I have lived in Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley for 26 years and
two months ago I moved near Pacific Coast Highway and Warner Avenue and
discovered the beauty and the historic significance of the area.
I wondered why I wasn’t aware of the fascinating history in my own
backyard. I walk through this amazing wilderness now. I start at the
wilderness trail where I read the signs telling many historical facts.
I’ve brought several family members and friends here to walk and they’re
also amazed. I feel it’s extremely important for Bolsa Chica to be
designated a historical site so more people will be aware of this area’s
incredible past and appreciate what a treasure it is.

Huntington Beach It is extremely important for Bolsa Chica to be
designated as a historic site. It was voted as such in 1983. Why do we
need another vote? There’s no doubt that an 8,000-year-old coastal
village with unique archeological value is a unique historic site.
Let’s not lose the opportunity to recognize and preserve this special
little pocket of history. This entire Bolsa Chica should be a historic
park for generations to explore and enjoy.

It’s very important that Bolsa Chica get designated a state historic
site because I live here and love the place, and don’t want them to
develop on it.
