Ayso Region 97: Lightning strikes Panthers

Ivan Becerra scored two goals to spark the Lightning in a 4-3
victory over the Panthers in an AYSO Region 97 boys under-10 soccer game.
Colton Gyulay and Sergio Garcia also scored goals for the Lightning. A
last minute header by Wil Curiel kept the Panthers’ final corner kick
from tying the sore.
Steven Miller and Marcos Urquiza were strong on offense. Drew Diller,
Brecht Vanthof and Matthew DiFrancesca moved the ball well in midfield.
Patrick Briand, Miles Flanders and goalkeeper John Ryder contributed on
defense.
In boys under-12 action:
* Crimson Clowns 1, Forest Monkeys 0 - Timothy Regan (three saves) and
Richard De St. Jean were strong in the net for the Forest Monkeys. The
offense was led by Danny Ingalls (two shots), Preston Davey (three
shots), Spencer Smith, Vinnie Finn, Justin Faber and Taylor Allee.
Midfielders Nick Verdugo and Christian Scott played well. The defense was
anchored by Tommy Hanrahan, Michael Gracia and Daron Arnold.
In boys under 12 APP play: Newport Beach 3, Corona del Mar 2 - Brian
Siemonsma and Adrian Bouncanoce each scored a goal and Denny Perdomo had
a goal and two assists for Newport Beach in a game at Arroyo Park. Pe
In girls under-10 action:
* Red Dogs 2, Solar Bears 1 - McKenna Cottam scored a goal in the
first half for the Red Dogs to tie the score, 1-1. Kaitlin Kehoe scored
the winning goal off a cross pass by Cottam. The defense was led by
Brianna Truxton, Marianne Jones and Chelsea Barth. Kendra Mann, Zoie
Verrall, Amy Kanotz and Indy Tamplin played well. Courtney Francis,
Veronica McLean and DeAnna Patel were strong in the net for the Red Dogs
(6-1-1).
* X-Terminators 0, Grinders 0 - Outstanding defensive efforts were
seen by the X-Terminators’ Brian Baca and Simon Hedrick. Grinders’
standouts included Daniel Netzer and Spencer Martinez.
In boys under-8 action:
* The Rockets were led by Weston Buera, Jonathan Lembeck and Eric
Rosales on defense. Vincent Aqueveque, Cole Blower, Jordan Desguin, Ryan
Gooding, Charlie Hawthorne and Cory Kroeger contributed on offense.
* The Destroyers took on the Super Surfers and received goals from
James Jarvis, Sean Regan, Teddy Barry and Jack Murrel. Christopher
Sheppard, Adam Yeomans and Hayden Noakes had numerous shots on goal.
* The Blue Magicians overpowered the Soccer Freaks with four goals
from Nolan Mena. Trevor Magana (two goals), Tyler Kiehnle (one goal) and
Ryan Shannon (1 goal) also contributed on offense. Lending support were
Kyle Regan with two shots and Paul Tadross with strong defense.
In boys under-6 action:
* The Hammerheads squared off against the Rockets and received goals
from Shawn Perrier, Cameron Mitchell and Gannon Bond. Nicolas Houser had
an assist. Grant Moore’s goal highlighted the Rockets’ offense. Will
Hinkelman and Ryan Baskent controlled the ball on offense for the
Hammerheads while Kyle Zimmerman patrolled the midfield.
