Men’s golf: UCI tied for eighth

The UC Irvine men’s golf team is tied for eighth place with
Pepperdine and North Carolina at 287 after the first 18-hole round of The
Prestige at Palm Desert, played on the Firecliff course at the Desert
Willow Golf Resort Monday.
UC Davis and Kansas are tied for the lead at 278 in the 20-team field.
Monday’s schedule called for two rounds to be played, but the first round
took more than five hours and players were on the course with four holes
remaining when darkness halted play.
Travis Hurst of Kansas is the individual leader after shooting 8-under
64, one shot ahead of North Carolina’s Dustin Bray.
UC Irvine’s Kevin Stevens (70) is tied for 12th, Jeff Coburn (71) is
tied for 22nd, Ryan Armstrong (72) is tied for 35th, Mike Lavery (74) is
tied for 53rd and Brandon Murray (77) is tied for 81st.
The second round will be completed today, with the final 18 holes to
follow immediately.
