Girls volleyball: Tars, CdM earn seeds
Holding true to form from the latest CIF Southern Section
divisional polls, Newport Harbor High is seeded No. 2 in Division II-AA
and Corona del Mar is seeded No. 3 in Division III-A, in girls volleyball
playoff pairings released Sunday.
Coach Dan Glenn’s Sailors (18-9), co-champions of the Sea View League,
receive a first-round bye Tuesday and will host the winner of Tuesday’s
Hemet-Norco match in Thursday’s 7 p.m. second round.
CdM (17-6), the runner-up from the Pacific Coast League, hosts Desert
Hot Springs, the No. 3 representative from the Desert Valley League, in
Thursday’s first round.
If successful, Newport would likely meet Buena in Saturday’s
quarterfinal, with No. 3-seeded Westlake potentially looming in a Nov. 13
semifinal.
CdM, if victorious Thursday, would face Mission Valley League champion
Gabrielino, or Nordhoff, the No. 3 team from the Frontier League, in
Saturday’s second round.
The finals in both divisions will be held either Nov. 16 of 17 at
Cypress College.
Mira Costa is the No. 1 seed in Division II-AA, while Harvard-Westlake
and Bishop Montgomery are seeded Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, in Division
III-A.
CdM lost to Bishop Montgomery in last year’s III-AA semifinals, while
Harbor was eliminated in the I-A quarterfinals by Huntington Beach last
fall.
