COSTA MESA - Orange Coast College was an 8-4 winner over visiting
Fullerton in a semifinal of the Orange Empire Conference women’s water
polo tournament Thursday as the Pirates struck with a four-goal second
quarter to put the game out of reach.
The victory sends Coast, now 29-1, into Saturday’s 2 p.m. championship
game at the University of Redlands.
Tia Montalvo was the Pirates’ scoring leader with three goals, and
Erica Nicholson added two as the Pirates forged a 5-1 lead at halftime,
then expanded the lead to 7-1 after three quarters.
Devon Wright, Christine McDonald and Nichole Sonnefeld added single
goals for the Pirates.
OCC goalie Heather Deyden, a product of Newport Harbor High, had five
saves.
