A grease fire at the Sizzler restaurant in Huntington Beach Tuesday
afternoon caused no injuries, but will temporarily force the restaurant
to close its doors.
The fire originated in a deep fat fryer in the kitchen, said Tony
Smith, the investigator for the Huntington Beach Fire Department.
It was quickly contained by the 33 firefighters from Huntington Beach,
Fountain Valley and Santa Ana who responded to the call.
“There will be no further investigation as we know the origin of the
fire,” said Smith, who also stated that the restaurant would remain
closed until it was cleared to reopen by the Health Department.
“Everything was up-to-date and proper tags were displayed in the
restaurant.”
The fire was basically self-contained in the kitchen area and an
overhead sprinkler, near the hood system where the fire had traveled,
activated but did not douse the fire, Smith said.
Firefighters were dispatched to the fire at 1:37 p.m. when a local
resident reported the fire at the restaurant on Goldenwest Street, near
the corner of Edinger Ave. The after lunch crowd was not large an no
patron, restaurant employee or firefighter was injured, he added.
