THE WEATHER FORECAST
What can we say that hasn’t been said about the fabulous Southern
California weather. Expect early morning cloudiness to burn off by 10
a.m., revealing Newport-Mesa in all it’s glory. Though it may feel like
it’s in the upper 80s, it’s probably only around 78. A high of 83 is
expected to be reached around 3 p.m.
If you’re planning to spend time outside, make sure you have your
sunscreen slathered, especially at 1 p.m., when the UV index will reach
9.
The temperatures will dip into the upper 60s by 8 p.m., staying there
for most the night. With clear skies expected, it might be a nice night
for some stargazing -- the celestial, not Hollywood kind.
THE BOATING FORECAST
Near shore, the wind will start off light in the morning, becoming 10
to 15 knots coming out of the west by the afternoon. Expect some patchy,
dense fog in the early hours.
A three-foot wind westerly wind swell is expected.
Further out to sea, there’s a small craft advisory. Winds are expected
to come out of the northwest at 15 to 25 knots, with locally stronger
gusts. Wind waves of 3 to 4 feet are expected, with a northwest swell of
9 feet.
THE SURF REPORT
This has not been a great summer for waves and today is not expected
to be an exception. A mixture of wind swell from the northwest and small
Southern Hemi pulses will keep the surf in the 2- to 3-foot range. By the
late afternoon, a swell originating from a Chilean storm might bring a
few larger waves.
