COSTA MESA - New Orange Coast College men’s basketball coach Steve
Spencer is officially not alone anymore on the Pirates’ bench.
Joining Spencer as an assistant coach is former UCLA and NBA center
Brad Wright, who joins the Pirates’ staff with 15 seasons of Division I
and professional basketball playing experience.
Wright played at UCLA from 1982-85 before joining the NBA, where he
played for the Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks and Denver Nuggets.
As a senior for the Bruins, the 7-foot Wright blocked 44 shots, which
still ranks in the top 10 for one season at UCLA. That year, the Bruins
won the school’s only NIT championship with a victory over Indiana.
After his NBA career, Wright played professionally in Italy, France
and Spain.
