The Fairview Friends Committee will host a free guided tour of

Fairview Park beginning at 9 a.m. today.

According to the organizers, the 1 1/2-hour tour is meant to present

an overview of what the park has to offer and give the public a better

understanding of future plans for the park.

The city’s goal is to educate visitors about the park’s history, as

well as the City Council-adopted master plan that calls for eliminating

nonnative plants, establishing native communities, restoring vernal

pools, protecting wildlife, and incorporating hiking and biking trails

into the landscape.

Future plans also include a botanical garden, a natural history

interpretive area and a dog park.

The tour will be conducted by Robert Graham, a longtime Costa Mesa

resident and an advocate for the preservation of Fairview Park.
