Fashion choices for women who are not a size 2 have come a long way in
recent times. Designers recognize that a woman of larger stature requires
the same fashion attention as every other woman. Despite the summer push
to diet to fit into that slinky bathing suit at the beach, let’s give
three cheers to the gal who knows all too well that beauty has nothing to
do with size.
She’s off to the Newport shore for a wonderful summer of sunshine and
surf, wearing bathing fashion that suits her style and lets her be just
who she is and not who the magazines and fashion trends tell her she
should be. The Look features swim fashion from national catalog Lands’
End for summer 2001.

1. The mainstay tankini breaks through the missy size range and is
available at Lands’ End in women’s extended sizes (18W to 26W). The faille tankini ($74) provides a slimming fit with its light, vertical
ribbed fabric and a slight touch of Lycra for control. The tankini
features a tank top and brief that provides full tummy coverage. Not only
available in black, but also in this season’s trendiest colors --
sapphire blue, plum violet and vivid red.
2. Plus-size women will win the immunity challenge with this season’s
mock tankini ($74). This suit features the illusion of a trendy tankini
and the coverage of a one-piece suit. The mock tankini features Lands’
End’s Slendertex fabric. This suit is incredibly flattering and
slenderizing.
3. This season, don’t forget to add a coordinating cover-up to your
swimwear wardrobe. The hooded mesh dress ($50) adds style and the red
block batik pattern provides colorful flair to a solid or matching suit
underneath.
4. The Floral Illusion sheer tank top ($28) and capri pant ($46)
provide an updated option for fun in the sun. Easy to wear elasticized
pull-on pants and relaxed matching top provide a comfortable, carefree
alternative to traditional cover-ups.
