1. A good old-fashioned campfire with s’ mores and a movie are all
part of Newport Dunes’ Hot August Nights Free Family Flicks series
tonight. Guests are encouraged to bring beach chairs to sit back and
enjoy the free event. This week’s feature film is the PG-rated “Matilda.”

children from PADRE (Pediatric Adolescent Diabetes Research and
Education) model the latest clothing trends and the Irvine Animal Care
Center hosts pet adoptions at 1 p.m. Saturday at Macy’s South Coast Plaza
Home Store, 3333 Bristol St., Costa Mesa.
3. Get a flavor of the outdoors as Backpacker Magazine’s Get Out More
Tour 2001 makes its way into Costa Mesa at 6 p.m. Sunday at The North
Face, 1870-A Harbor Blvd., Triangle Square, Costa Mesa. The international
tour educates the public on ways to get out and enjoy the outdoors. (949)
