A failed connection between overhead and underground wires caused the
power outage in parts of Costa Mesa and Newport Beach on Tuesday night,
Southern California Edison officials said.
Power went out about 8:58 p.m. and was back up by 10:39 p.m., Edison
spokeswoman Clara Potes-Fellow said.
“Our crews isolated the circuits and directed power from a different
location so that customers have power and workers can continue to work on
the problem,” she said.
The blackout affected 1,800 customers along a stretch of Irvine
Boulevard south of 17th Street and north of 15th Street.
Also, the outage did not affect Hoag Hospital. Costa Mesa and Newport
Beach police department officials said they did not receive reports of
outage-related incidents.
