WHAT HAPPENED
The City Council accepted a grant submitted by the Children’s Needs
Task Force that proposes building a Multi-Service Family Resource Center.
WHAT IT MEANS
The center will give people a central point to ask for help regarding
after-school care, learning services and would also provide a referral
system, said Mayor Pam Julien Houchen.
VOTE: 7-0, approved
WHAT HAPPENED
The council made appointments and reappointments of youth board
members and the community services commission.
WHAT IT MEANS
Two students were reappointed for a one-year term on the Huntington
Beach Youth Board: Jessica Lim, Edison High School representative; and
Megan Feldmar, at-large representative. Seven other students were
appointed to a one-year term on the Huntington Beach Youth Board: Cheryl
From, Ocean View High School representative; Leslie Robin, Marina High
School representative; Shayna Slownan, Huntington Beach High School
representative; and Lulu Wang, Tatiana Bello, Monish Subherwal and
Carolyn Browning, all at-large representatives.
John E. Scandura was appointed to a member-at-large opening on the
community services commission to a four-year term, which began July 1,
2001 through June 30, 2005.
VOTE 7-0, approved.
WHAT HAPPENED
The council approved the use of $100,00 more for the improvement at
the Slater Channel.
WHAT IT MEANS
The original budget for the construction was $3.6 million, with
$25,000 being allocated to supplemental expenditures. The additional
$100,000 was sought to pay for surveying, concrete and laboratory testing
and soils compaction. The additional $100,000 can be used without
exceeding the total project budget.
