Authorities arrested a 22-year-old Huntington Beach man Monday in

connection with a stabbing incident that occurred July 12 and resulted in

a male victim being rushed to UCI Medical Center, where he is recovering

from nonlife threatening injuries.

Michael Avilez, 22, of Huntington Beach walked into the Huntington

Beach Police Department Monday after Huntington Beach detectives spoke

with him by telephone earlier in the day.

Avilez has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon and is being

held on $50,000 bail. He is being held at Huntington Beach City Jail.

The victim, Patrick Tasselli, 31, from Huntington Beach, was trying to

assist two female friends who locked themselves out of The Colonial Inn

at 418 8th Street in Huntington Beach, when Avilez approached the trio,

said Sgt. Janet Perez.

Avilez spoke with all three but the conversation ended in an argument

and a physical fight between Tasselli and Avilez, she added. Avilez

stabbed Tasselli once in the chest and once in the leg with a knife and

fled the scene on foot.

Perez said Avilez left behind personal property that allowed

detectives to identify him. The two females with Tasselli were not

injured.
