NHBA Mustangs: Newport ‘B’ All-Stars fall short

FOUNTAIN VALLEY - The Newport Harbor Baseball Association Mustang
Division “B” All-Star team showed some late-inning heart, but lost to
Dana Point, 12-10, in an elimination game at the District 3 Tournament
Friday at Mile Square Park.
“We managed to bring our ‘A’ game with us, but we simply ran out of
innings,” Manager Ty Peterson said.
Newport was led by Justin Faber, who went 3 for 4 with three RBIs.
Eric Holland went 4 for 4, while Coby Peterson and Peter Kinney combined
for five hits and three RBIs.
Newport trailed, 9-4, before a fifth-inning rally pumped new life into
the troop.
Zack Gagnon started the fireworks with a single. He scored on a double
by Peterson, making it 9-5. Holland followed with a single, scoring
Peterson and Justin Faber closed out the rally with a two-run double,
bringing Newport to within one.
Dana Point answered with three runs in the top of the sixth and
Newport responded with two in the bottom of the sixth, but could get no
closer.
Gagnon, Braden Cluck and Jack Grace each had key hits for Newport,
while Bobby Okvist made two nice defensive plays in right field.
