Girls swimming: Newport receives high marks

NEWPORT BEACH - The national rankings for high school All-American
girls swimming was recently released with a prominent Newport Harbor High
flavor.
Junior Carly Geehr is ranked 10th in both the 200-meter freestyle and
200 individual medley. She is also ranked 29th in the 100 free and 37th
in the 100 breaststroke.
The highest-ranked Sailor is junior Nicole Mackey. She is fifth in the
nation in the 100 backstroke and 13th in the 100 butterfly as well as
38th in the 200 IM and 87th in the 200 free.
Junior Hayley Peirsol is 19th in the 500 free and 91st in the 200
free, while Jennifer Arrow is 97th in the nation in the 100 breaststroke.
The Sailors are also strong in relay events. The 400 free relay
foursome of Geehr, Peirsol, Mackey and Mai Tajima is ranked 26th, while
the 200 medley relay of Mackey, Arrow, Geehr and Peirsol is 42nd.
Also, the 200 free relay team of Mackey, Tajima, Geehr and Erin Ball
is ranked 167th nationally.
