FOUNTAIN VALLEY - Newport Beach’s Kaes Van’t Hof and Corona del Mar
High standout Brian Morton advanced to today’s boys 14s singles and boys
18s doubles finals, respectively, with semifinal victories Saturday at
the 99th annual Southern California Junior Tennis Sectionals at Los
Caballeros Sports Village.
Van’t Hof defeated Shan Sondhu from Laguna Niguel, 7-5, 6-4, to earn a
berth in today’s noon final against Samuel Tadevosian from Glendale.
Van’t Hof and Tadevosian have split two previous meetings this year.
Morton, teaming with K.C. Corkery from Manhattan Beach, defeated
Patrick Buchanan and Serge Modoc, 6-4, 6-0, in Saturday’s semifinal.
Morton and Corkery, the No. 2 seed, will face top-seeded Ryan Redondo,
from Carlsbad, and Fountain Valley’s Travis Rettenmaier today at 1:30.
In a consolation girls 18s singles match of note, Brittany Reitz
defeated CdM High teammate Anne Yelsey, 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (7-3). Reitz, the
CIF Southern Section singles champion was spent after avenging her loss
to Yelsey in last fall’s Pacific Coast League singles final. She retired
from her next match.
Costa Mesa resident Nelly Radeva lost, 6-4, 6-3, in a girls 10s
singles semifinal Saturday to Brooke Schweyer from Manhattan Beach.
