Men’s tennis: Lions win NAIA Tournament opener

LEXINGTON, Kent. - The Vanguard University men’s tennis team saw
its season come to an end Tuesday following its 5-1 loss to Florida’s
Flagler College in the second round of the NAIA National Championships.
Joakim Ulfvebrand was the lone winner for the Lions (13-12), defeating
Flagler’s Dan Siari, 6-4, 6-3.
Flagler, seeded fourth, is 21-3.
The Lions advanced to the second round after defeating Virginia
Intermont, 5-1, Monday. Peter Skrzeczynski was victorious in singles,
7-5, 6-4 over Andres Gonzalez, before teaming up with Sebastian Camara in
doubles and winning, 8-3.

Singles - Skrzeczynski (VU) def. Gonzalez, 7-5, 6-4; Ulfvebrand (VU)
def. Pike, 6-1, 6-0; Camara (VU) def. De La Vega, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
Doubles - Skrzeczynski-Camara (VU) def. Pike-De La Vega, 8-3;
Hall-Godoy (VU) lost to Gonzalez-Donoso, 5-8; Stromberg-Franz (VU) def.
Sergid-Tejada, 9-8.
Second round
Flagler 5, Vanguard 1
Singles - Skrzeczynski (VU) lost to Mierzwinski, 2-6, 3-6; Ulvfebrand
(VU) def. Siari, 6-4, 6-3; Snoap (VU) def. Stromberg, 1-6, 2-6.
Doubles - Skrzeczynski-Camara (VU) lost to Mierzwinski-Maurer, 5-8;
Godoy-Hall (VU) lost to Siari-Snoap, 2-8; Stromberg-Ulfvebrand (VU) lost
to Moore-Mabra, 8-9.
