Nelson Torres has been named as the April recipient of Vanguard
University’s Outstanding Service Award.
“I feel loved and blessed in receiving this honor, thank you very
much.” Torres said on receiving the award.
Torres is a senior business administration major who has been active
on campus and served as a resident assistant on Vanguard Hall’s third
floor.
He also has been involved in the university’s “Hands Across the
Border” student outreach ministry, both as a translator and a counselor.
In his nomination papers Dan Mortensen, vice president for Student
Affairs, described Torres as having a “heart of gold” and said “he loves
people and is very faithful with the responsibilities that he takes on.”
The outstanding service award is presented throughout the year to
students who are engaged in outstanding service to, or on behalf of, the
university. Any member of the administration, faculty, staff or student
body may nominate students.
