Women’s tennis: Pirates have rough day at individual regionals

SAN DIEGO - Members of the Orange Coast College women’s tennis team
had a rough outing in the first round of the Orange Empire Conference
individual regionals Thursday at Southwestern College.
Of the four singles players and two doubles teams competing in the
regionals, only the pair of Veronica Sommer and Stephanie Chang advanced
to the round of 16 and that was by default.
Sommer and Chang will play today at 1:30 p.m.

Singles - Tomicich (Glendale) def. Sommer (OCC), 6-2, 6-2; Knitter
(Mt. SAC) def. Mai (OCC), 6-2, 6-0; Arias (El Camino) def. Chang (OCC),
6-3, 7-5; Bradshaw (Mt. San Jacinto) def. McNamara (OCC), 6-0, 6-3.
Doubles - Folgetova-Borges (Grossmont) def. Mai-Lawson (OCC), 6-2,
6-0; Sommer-Chang (OCC) won by default.
