Baseball: Pirates must now wait

COSTA MESA - The Orange Coast College baseball team must hope for
an at-large playoff bid following Friday’s 10-2 Orange Empire Conference
win over visiting Irvine Valley.
The Pirates (24-16, 12-12 in conference) finished fifth in the OEC,
but only the top four teams get an automatic bid. A playoff seeding
meeting will take place Monday to determine the Bucs’ fate.
Newport Harbor High product Scott Beerer pitched seven strong innings
to earn the win and improve to 5-2. He struck out 10 and walked only one.
Offensively, Chris Sinner went 1 for 3, including a three-run double
to lead the Pirates. Beerer and Jake Garcia had two hits each.
