Baseball: Irvine tops Newport, 8-3

NEWPORT BEACH - Chris Lewis and Dan Beuchat hit home runs and
senior right-hander Aaron Rippo won on the mound as visiting Irvine High
defeated Newport Harbor, 8-3, in a Sea View League baseball game Monday.
The Vaqueros (16-6, 9-4 in league), who host Aliso Niguel in a
showdown for the league title Wednesday, scored three runs in the first
inning and three more in the third as the Sailors (7-14-1, 2-11) trailed the whole way.
Garrett Brant and Cameron Pemstein had extra-base hits for the Tars,
while right-hander Chris Ward pitched six innings and yielding only two
walks.
Harbor outhit Irvine, 11-10, but the Vaqueros enjoyed the timely hits,
highlighted by Beuchat’s two-run single in the third. Beuchat hit a solo
homer in the first. Lewis was 3 for 4 with three runs scored and a solo
home run.
Rippo, 3-1, struck out three and walked one in five innings, giving up
seven hits.
Newport Harbor plays at Laguna Hills Wednesday.
