Making the best steak sandwich in Fountain Valley
CONSISTENT WORKER
Ramirez, 24, has worked at George’s Hamburger in Fountain Valley for
the past six years, pulling double duty as cook and cashier.
“It’s good working here because George [the owner] is a nice guy,”
Ramirez said.
Ramirez comes in to the burger restaurant at midday and finishes up
his shift at around 9 p.m. He does this six days a week from Tuesday
through Sunday. He says that when Monday comes around, he takes the time
to enjoy a well-earned day of rest.
KNOWING THE GAME
When it comes to cooking at George’s, versatility and speed are the
key factors in his craft. Ramirez says he can prepare any type of
breakfast, lunch or dinner, but spends a lot of his time making burgers,
sandwiches and Mexican food.
“There are always people here who are hungry,” Ramirez said. “Because
I start work at noon, I usually miss the breakfast crowd so I get a lot
of orders for hamburgers and things like that.”
DELICIOUS EATS
The most popular requests throughout the day, says Ramirez, are
George’s bacon cheeseburger and the steak sandwich.
“A lot of people say we make the best steak sandwich in town,” Ramirez
said. “It’s my favorite for sure; I have it all the time.”
Ramirez likes cooking and loves mixing with the people who come into
the establishment. He works with a fellow cook who has been there for
half the time -- three years -- and says the job has a lot of benefits.
“I love cooking for people, and I get to laugh a lot and have fun
while doing it,” he said.
