College churning out scholars
Golden West College boasts the highest percentage of “distinction
admissions” to Cal State Fullerton. These students of distinction receive
a 3.6 or higher grade point average. Golden West also has the second
highest percentage of total students admitted to the school.
Auditions planned for ‘Sly Fox’
Auditions for the Larry Gelbart comedy, “Sly Fox,” are scheduled at 7
p.m. May 21 and 22 at the Mainstage Theatre at Golden West College, 15744
Goldenwest St., Huntington Beach.
Director Tom Amen is looking for five women and 12 men to cast from
cold readings. Actors should prepare by reading the play, which will open
July 6 for two weekends.

Senator supports literacy grant
U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-California) wrote a letter in support of
Ocean View School District’s application for continued funds for the
literacy program.
The district applied to the California Department of Education for a
third cycle of funding for the district’s Even Start Family Literacy
Program at Oak View Elementary School. The $105,000 grant would be given
every four years.
Student art exhibit set at Golden West
More than 50 works of art will be presented by art students during the
annual Golden West College Student Art Exhibit from May 1 to 18 at the
Fine Arts Gallery on campus, 15744 Goldenwest St. in Huntington Beach.
Included among the selections will be digital art, sculptures, photos,
paintings and multimedia works.
The exhibit’s reception is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. April 30.
The gallery is opened from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and
from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.
