It was “A Walk in the Park.” The 15th annual mother-daughter fashion
show presented by the National Charity League Juniorsattracted more than
500 fashionable women and children to an event staged in the new Palm
Garden at the Four Seasons Hotel in Newport Beach.
The afternoon under the Palm Garden canvas ceiling featured charming
sixth-grade daughters modeling with their stylish mothers in something of
a rite of passage. These junior young women will graduate into the
Newport Chapter of the National Charity League.
More than $75,000 was raised to benefit the league’s charities,
including High Hopes Head Injury Program, The Harry and Grace Steele
Orange Coast College Children’s Center, and The Pediatric Cancer Research
Foundation.
The event began with a fashion show in the morning featuring Blair and
Mrs. Phil Belling; Lindsay and Mrs. Kevin McKenna; Katie and Mrs. Rober
Moosman; Jorden and Mrs Jacob Rabinovich; Ginna and Mrs. John Rothwell;
Allison and Mrs. Allan Stokke; Elizabeth and Mrs. Robert Van’t Hof;
Dailey and Mrs. Grant Weise; and Haley, Miranda and Mrs. David Young.
The fashion show was presented with sponsorship from South Coast Plaza
and Saks Fifth Avenue. Luncheon was served following some time set aside
for silent auction bidding. The event committee consisted of dedicated
National Charity League women, including Kathleen Farmer, Jill Wiese,
Kathy Hancock, Gay Butera, Cindy Stikke, Terri Coons, Kathy Kelter, Diane
Cotton, Jill Johnson Tucker, Lynn Pyle, Ann Moorehead, Debbie McKenna,
Jody Young, Gina Rabinovich, Kathy Stuart, Carol Legrand and National
Charity League President Betsy Van’t Hof.
Amid all the flowers, fashion and finery, it is important to note the
mission statement of the league. The organization exists to foster
mother-daughter relationships around the common bond of charitable work.
The National Charity League sponsors many civic, cultural and social
activities designed to bring families and the community closer together.
