The three-volume Final Environmental Impact Report/Environmental
Impact Statement for the Bolsa Chica Lowlands Restoration Project has
been released.
The proposed project is to restore 850 acres of the Bolsa Chica
lowlands and to create wetlands habitat areas. A new tidal inlet is also
proposed.
The California State Lands Commission will consider certification of
the plan and select a project for implementation at a future public
meeting. A copy is available for the public to review at the Central
Huntington Beach Public Library at 7111 Talbert Ave. and the Bolsa Chica
Conservancy at 3842 Warner Ave.
Art League accepting work for spring show
The Huntington Beach Art League will be accepting artwork for all
artists for its 2001 Spring Open Juried Show, which will be held during
normal business hours Sunday through May 4 at the Huntington Beach
Library, 7111 Talbert Avenue.
The categories include oils/acrylics, 3-D, watercolor, photography,
drawings/pastels, computer-generated art and Mixed Media.
Artwork must be an original and not a copy of another artists’ work,
and must have been created between 1998 and 2001. Work accepted must
remain until the end of the exhibit.
Winners of each category will be awarded cash prizes of $75 and $150
for best in show.
Artwork will be accepted from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. Friday and 9:15 to
noon Saturday. Up to three entries can be included.
Cost is $10 per entry, and $25 for three entries for nonmembers, $8
per entry and $20 for three entries for members.

Rohrabacher visits water district
Congressman Dana Rohrabacher (R-Huntington Beach) visited the Orange
County Water District to receive briefings on the district and its
activities in the water industry.
Orange County Water District staff discussed the Ground-water
Replenishment System, a joint project of the district and the Orange
County Sanitation District to provide Orange County a reliable new source
of purified water.
Bolsa Chica Conservancy to celebrate Earth Day
The Bolsa Chica Conservancy’s annual celebration of Earth Day at the
wetlands will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Volunteers wanting to
help Mother Nature by picking up trash and debris or remove nonnative
vegetation, can meet at the walk bridge in the south ecological reserve
parking lot on Pacific Coast Highway.
Workers park free at the Bolsa State Beach parking lot. Vans will
transport across the highway. Special handouts from Rainbow Disposal for
the children. This is the last cleanup until summer is over. Information:

Swing classes to be held at Murdy
Residents looking to add an extra swing to their step can sign up for
East Coast Swing dance lessons at Murdy Community Center.
The five-week dance course will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays
from May 17 to June 14 with classes lasting an hour long.
Interested residents will start with the basic techniques, learning
easy patters and turns right away. There also will be a grad class party
at a local swing club.
Registration for the class is $50, with an additional $2 fee for step
pattern sheets and tips on leading, following and styling. Partners are
not needed to enroll in the class.
